A proposed diet in Scottsdale is generating a lot of controversy.

The change would not affect what any residents eat, but rather what a stretch of road would look like. The section in question is about a mile stretch of 68th Street in south Scottsdale.

The "road diet" would reduce through travel lanes to make room for right turn lanes and left turn bays, among other changes. Supporters argue that would make the roads safer and flow better, but some residents worry the changes would lead to congestion, among other concerns.

The Arizona Department of Transportation reports in 2021, there were more than 121,000 crashes in Arizona, and more than a thousand of those led to deaths.

The Show talked more about the idea of road diets with Asha Weinstein Agrawal, education director at San Jose State University’s Mineta Transportation Institute.
