The Arizona Pet Project is expanding its services to Tucson.

With an American Rescue Plan grant, the nonprofit will now help residents access housing services without surrendering their pets.

Pet care is one reason some people experiencing homelessness may struggle getting shelter or housing. The Arizona Pet Project provides resources like veterinary care, food and help with deposits to meet housing or shelter requirements.

In a statement, the organization said it hired a crisis and shelter intervention counselor in Tucson. The nonprofit also built partnerships with government entities and other organizations through the new expansion.
