Enrollment by first-year Native American students at University of Arizona has jumped almost 30% from fall 2022, the university said.

Fall classes start Monday, Aug. 21, at the university.

School officials attribute the increase to a grant program that pays tuition and mandatory fees for full-time, undergraduate students who study on the main campus in Tucson from all of Arizona's federally recognized tribes.

Arizona State University also broke several student records as their fall semester started this week, according to school officials.

ASU Online has 65,000 students enrolled in the fall semester, which is the most in school history.

About 60,000 students are from Arizona, including a record of nearly 9,000 first-year students, ASU said.
