State Sen. Priya Sundareshan is seeking a grant to fix leaking water infrastructure for a rural community near Tucson. The water residents get from the city is considered secure, but Sundareshan said legislation may be needed to guarantee long term access by requiring contractors to build adequate infrastructure.

“There remain some people who have found themselves without access to secure water,” said Sundareshan. “And we need to close all of the loopholes and ensure that this does not continue going forward.”

The grant would come from the Water Infrastructure Finance Authority, an independent state agency in charge of several federal and state-capitalized programs.

Sundareshan is a non-voting member of the authority.
