Phoenix held a groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday for Fire Station 62 being built at 93rd Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road.

Two dozen firefighters are expected to work out of the nearly 21,000 square foot facility. It will include a new fire engine and ambulance to better serve the growing community.

The station will also have decontamination spaces to keep gear and boots out of living quarters, and 16 gender-neutral dorms, unisex restrooms and a gym.

In a press release, Phoenix Fire Captain Mike Duran said the station “will ensure crews have access to top-notch resources and can respond quickly in times of need.”

The station is expected to open by late 2024.
