As cooler temperatures come to the desert, Arizona’s public lands agencies will start to look ahead to future fire seasons.

That means projects to thin fuel buildups, which can lead to bigger, hotter fires.

The Bureau of Land Management will burn piles of cut tamarisk on about 40 acres northwest of Lake Pleasant.

The agency cleared the brush to improve ecosystem health and habitat for the lesser long-nosed bat.

It will also burn juniper piles in Agua Fria National Monument east of I-17.

Light smoke may be visible but no road closures are planned.

Tonto National Forest will also carry out prescribed burns about 25 miles north of Globe.
