Early last week, a Mohave County woman died after being trampled by an elk. On Friday, a coyote attacked a child in Mesa. 

As a result, Arizona Game and Fish Department spokesperson Mark Hart is reminding people about the dangers of approaching wild animals, especially to feed them.

“I just don’t think people really understand this habituation and this lost fear of humans can really be a trigger point for say a predator like the coyote," he said.

Hart says other animals like bears, for instance, can become aggressive in pursuit of human-sourced food, even from a garbage can.
