Arizona has received $470 million from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law
The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law passed about two years ago with support from Arizona’s U.S. senators.
Since then, the Department of Interior has poured about $4 billion into the Mountain West.
About half of the funding went toward tribal water rights settlements.
Arizona has received more than $470 million for public lands projects, like abandoned mine cleanup in the southern part of the state and native fish restoration in the White Mountains.
Aaron Weiss, with the Center for Western Priorities, says that future funding could help ease the impacts of wildfire in the region.
"Money is the easiest way to measure it, and to see what’s coming in, but the actual impacts of course are what’s going to be felt on the ground as these projects get built," Weis said.
He says that western states should also see more funding from the bipartisan infrastructure law to help ease the drought.
