Changes are coming to the trucking industry, in the form of autonomous technology, connected vehicles, and different types of power to make them go. And while scientists are working on bringing those technologies to market, engineers are trying to figure out how those new kinds of trucks will impact the roads on which they — and we — drive.

Hasan Ozer is one of those engineers. He's also an associate professor at Arizona State University's School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment. He says there’s a new group in Arizona, called the Southwest Pavement Technology Consortium, whose goal is to help regional agencies, as well as industry, address pavement challenges — including those brought on by new kinds of trucks.

Ozer joined The Show to talk about what some initial research on this subject has found.
