Arizonans have about 18 months until they must have federal identification, such as a passport, or an Arizona travel ID to board a plane.

State transportation officials say the holiday season is an ideal time to make an appointment to get a travel ID because it's when the Motor Vehicle Division offices slow down some.

People seeking the credential should bring proof of identity, their Social Security number and two documents that show state residency.
