More than 400 people are expected to benefit each year from two new affordable housing projects in Chandler.

Maricopa County is funding the projects with $10 million from the American Rescue Plan Act.

An affordable rental community for seniors on south Hamilton Street will cost $5 million and have about 300 available units.

Another $5 million will fund a development just south of Chandler Boulevard available to more than 100 income-qualified families, veterans and people with disabilities. To qualify, residents have to earn at or below 60% of the area's median income.

Jacqueline Edwards, Maricopa County human services director, says this is part of a larger $130 million investment across the county.

“This includes permanent supportive housing in Phoenix, multi-family housing here in Chandler, as well as community land trust projects in Gila Bend and Gilbert," she said.

Edwards said she expects the projects to be finished and at full occupancy by 2026.
