A steel company headquartered in Phoenix will pay a half-million dollars to current and former Black and Latino workers at its plant in Eloy.

The payouts are part of a legal settlement with federal employment regulators stemming from complaints of harassment and retaliation.

The website for Schuff Steel company details work it’s done for projects like State Farm Stadium in Glendale.

Schuff Steel was sued last year by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission over allegations that an Eloy plant manager harassed Black and Latino workers with racial slurs and other discriminatory behavior.

Those who complained were allegedly fired or moved to the night shift.

Now, a court-enforced deal has been struck requiring Schuff Steel to hire outside experts to affect internal reform.

Calls seeking comment from the local parent company of Schuff Steel were not answered.
