The first week of the new year will see near normal temperatures in Arizona through Wednesday, followed by cooling and possible rain heading into the weekend.

Three weather systems moving across the Southwest will bring Phoenix highs around the mid-60s and lows in the mid-40s, with the potential to dip down into the low 40s and upper 30s on some mornings.

Phoenix National Weather Service meteorologist Ted Whittock forecasts “a decent chance” of rain on Thursday but a smaller chance next Monday.

“Looking like there's also going to be a weaker weather system passing through Monday, late Monday into Tuesday, could see some light showers, but mostly staying to the east and south of Phoenix,” he said.

Up north, rain or snow are expected for Flagstaff, where highs will top out in the 30s and 40s.
