Venezuelan migrants will be flown back to their country from Mexico under a new deal between the two countries. It’s the latest effort to stem migration to the U.S.-Mexico border.

Mexico and Venezuela announced the restart of these repatriation flights on Saturday, part of an agreement forged by regional leaders in October.

The move comes amid a sharp rise in the number of migrants and asylum seekers making their way to the U.S.-Mexico border.

Mexican authorities say thousands have been trekking through southern Mexico over the past week. While U.S. border officials say they’ve been apprehending at least 10,000 people a day — hundreds of whom are presenting to Border Patrol agents outside Lukeville.
