Arizona state lawmakers are preparing for a new legislative session — and so are conservationists.

The Sierra Club and other groups will outline their priorities during a rally at the state Capitol on Wednesday, Jan. 3.

Last year, the Sierra Club gave most Republican lawmakers in the Arizona Legislature failing grades for what the group says was their lack of action on climate change, environmental justice and water issues.

Those items remain high on the list of things that the groups would like to see addressed in 2024.

Although generous amounts of snow and rain last winter helped shore up the state’s reservoirs, rural groundwater remains a concern. The new session begins Monday, Jan. 8.
