Forest Service renews vandalism warning after Bell Rock carving in Sedona
The Forest Service is warning people not to carve into the rocks, a form of graffiti that is nearly impossible to eradicate after someone scrawled their names into Bell Rock in Sedona.
Someone with presumably strong affections for a "Kim" scrawled the name inside a heart in the brilliant stone of the Red Rock Ranger District. The agency warned that doing that destroys the delicate patina that gives the rocks their name. It posted a video to social media warning against the vandalism.
"This is not going to go away without some significant scrubbing, which will likely damage the patina and the lichen on the rock," said Ashley Petefish with the agency.
She notes the depth of the carving; and said rain will not wash the graffiti away.
Bell Rock is the iconic dome of Sedona’s formations.
