A bill that defines memory care in Arizona is moving through the Legislature
A bill that would establish a certification process for memory care services, and set training standards for staff who work at facilities that offer those services, is moving through the Arizona Legislature.
Tory Roberg is with the Alzheimer's Association in Phoenix. She says minimum training requirements are part of a recent amendment adopted Thursday, Feb. 15, in the House Health Committee.
"You know our goal is to have something, have something so that memory care means more than a marketing term in Arizona. And ensuring that we have trained staff who understand the complexities of dementia care, caring for our most vulnerable adults is a huge win."
Roberg says the amendment still needs work. For example, ensuring that it specifically states that the hours of training required are for dementia training.
