The Chandler Unified School District is creating a Teen Violence Advisory Committee. This comes four months after a 16-year-old was beaten to death in neighboring Queen Creek.

Community members gave Superintendent Frank Narducci a round of applause at the district’s governing board meeting Wednesday night after he announced the new committee.

Parents have been asking the district to do more to protect its students. Narducci said the group will be made up of parents, industry and medical professionals, law enforcement and other community members.

“We envision this group helping us address matters including smartphone usage, social media and video game dangers, bullying, and harassment," he said.

Parents will get more information about its development after the district’s spring break, which is March 11 -22.

Narducci said he plans to partner with an existing student committee to get their input on the issue as well.

“By working together as a district, with our community, with our students and with our families, we can all be a positive part of this solution," he said.
