March 6: Fire is 40% contained

A wildfire has burned around 3,800 acres along both sides of Route 66 near Seligman, mostly in dense grass there.

Tiffany Davila with the State Forestry Department said the wind-driven Aubrey Fire is about 40% contained.

“There were actually 12 roadside fires,” said Davila. “The Aubrey Fire was actually three of the larger fires that they were managing as one incident.”

Davila says the fire is likely human-caused, with the multiple starts indicating it was sparked by a dragged chain or similar source.

EDITOR’S NOTE: This story has been modified to correct the number of acres burned as of March 6.
