The trial of an Arizona rancher accused of fatally shooting an unarmed Mexican migrant last year has entered its fourth week.

George Alan Kelly is accused of shooting and killing Gabriel Cuen Buitimea on Jan. 30, 2023. He was one of a group of unarmed Buitimea and other migrants were thought to have been traversing Kelly's 170-acre ranch in Nogales near the U.S.-Mexico border.

Jurors finished up the third week in court with a trip to various parts of the border last Thursday — including the site of the shooting.

Seventy-five-year-old Kelly faces a second-degree murder charge. Prosecutors argue Kelly fired an AK-47 rifle recklessly that day. Kelly has said he fired warning shots but didn’t shoot directly at anyone.

Superior Court Judge Thomas Fink says he hopes to see the case go to the jury this week.
