The Pima County Board of Supervisors has passed a resolution condemning the 1864 abortion ban upheld by the Supreme Court this month. 

Under the 1864 law, all abortions are illegal in Arizona except those to save the life of the mother. The resolution against it was drafted by Pima County Supervisor Matt Heinz.

"The age of consent was 10, 10 years old, in 1864," Heinz said during a supervisors meeting Tuesday. "And yeah, disobedience, disobedience to a confederate-era law? I’m absolutely fine encouraging that."

The resolution says that law infringes on the reproductive rights and autonomy of Arizona residents. It calls on county attorneys, law enforcement agencies and medical professionals statewide to allow residents to pursue health care — including abortions. It also directs community health workers to provide resources and information about reproductive health and calls on the Arizona state legislature to repeal the law. 

Supervisors passed it in a 4-1 vote — with Supervisor Steve Christy was the sole "no" vote.
