Arizona State University has just dropped the price of tuition for some of its business students — to nothing. Starting next fall, the W.P. Carey School of Business will provide MBA students with scholarships covering the cost

The idea is to make MBAs more accessible, said W.P. Carey Dean Amy Hillman. She explainted that the school’s benefactor, the late Bill Carey, was committed to this idea, and that’s why money he donated is funding the scholarships. Hillman says the MBA program is extremely competitive, so even with the free tuition, it may not reach its cap of 120 students.

"Now, do I expect we might have more applications as a result of this?" she said. "The answer is yes, and I think where we’re hopeful is that we will get more applications from people that otherwise wouldn’t have the opportunity to pursue a top MBA program.

That would be people like single parents, she said, or aspiring entrepreneurs saving money for a business. Hillman said MBA tuition ranges from $47,000 to $90,000.
