Gov. Doug Ducey will soon select the next commissioner for the state’s main wildlife regulatory body. The Arizona Game and Fish Commission Appointment Recommendation Board has given the governor five names to consider.

The new commissioner will replace Robert Mansell, whose term ends this year. Six candidates were chosen from a list of 13 applicants, previously considered by the board at a public meeting last month. That number dropped to five following a meeting earlier this week.

The Arizona Game and Fish commission makes policies for a wide range of activities, from hunting and fishing to some law enforcement.

The board, which was created by the state Legislature in 2010, is responsible for interviewing, evaluating and recommending candidates to the governor, who must select and appoint the next commissioner from the submitted list.
