Arizona’s Department of Economic Security has grabbed some uncomfortable headlines lately.

Last week, the job status of two DES employees was affected by the discovery that an 86-year-old woman related to one of the workers had been padlocked inside a Mesa house. This comes just as DES Director Tim Jeffries marks one year on the job.

Jeffries spoke about what he expects from DES employees and why he has acted decisively to fire some of them.
