Writer Amy Silverman keeps very busy with her day job as managing editor of Phoenix New Times. But she also has a pretty intense home life.

In her personal new book, "My Heart Can’t Even Believe It: A Story of Science, Love and Down Syndrome," Silverman writes about giving birth to her daughter Sophie, finding out the girl had Down syndrome — and discovering that she had fallen in love with her as a 7-year-old.

Silverman spoke about the challenges and triumphs of her family’s life with Sophie.
