This last legislative session was one of the most active in the past 10 years. As one disability advocate thinks some were good, but others, not so much.

In the latest issue of LivAbility magazine, Amina Kruck, who is the vice president of advocacy at Ability 360, wrote about gains that were made. Take SB1284. It would have given small businesses 60 days to fix violations stemming from the Americans Disabilities Act. The bill was ultimately defeated.

"Overall it was a really good session," said Kruck. "And the bills that were negatively impacting, for the most part were a real opportunities to do some education with the legislature about issues they’re not familiar with."

She said other victories included funding for vocational rehabilitation services and the establishment of a savings account for disabled individuals under the age of 26 for disability-related expenses.
