As Tropical Storm Newton makes its way across parts of southeastern Arizona, Phoenix won’t likely see much more rain.

Glenn Lader is a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Tucson. He said Newton dumped between two and five inches of rain throughout portions of Santa Cruz and Cochise Counties.  While that’s a lot, Newton said it could have been worse.

"Considering what could happen and what we’ve seen in other tropical systems that have resulted a lot of moisture and thunderstorms we’ve seen flash flooding, that’s not really the case of what we’ve been seeing thus far with this event," Lader said.

The National Weather Service in Phoenix said Newton is the sixth tropical storm to cross into Arizona.  The last tropical storm to hit the state was Nora in 1997.
