One of the suspects in the murder of a Border Patrol agent has asked to delay the start of his trial. That agent's death touched off a scandal over a botched federal program.

The operation known as Fast and Furious involved letting straw buyers purchase guns and take them into Mexico with the goal of tracking them to drug cartel leaders. But agents lost track of many of the weapons, and one of them showed up at the Southern Arizona scene where United States Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry was murdered.

Five men have been accused of taking part in Terry's killing. One of them, Jesus Leonel Sanchez-Meza, was extradited from Mexico last month.

His trial was originally set for July 29. But Sanchez-Meza has asked the court for more time to consider a possible plea agreement.
