The Phoenix City Council voted unanimously this week to replace all of the city’s streetlights with energy efficient LEDs.

The council approved a $30 million plan to convert 100,000 streetlights to LEDs over the next two years, according to a statement on the city’s website.

The conversion is expected to save $22 million through 2030 in reduced energy and maintenance costs.

The color of the lights was another issue after some neighborhood groups expressed concern.

The council revised the city’s standard color temperature for street lights from the current 4,000 kelvin to a warmer colored 2,700 kelvin.
