Production of Lucid's electric cars is expected to begin in 2018.

Lucid Motors last week became one of the latest companies to announce plans to invest in the state and add jobs — 2,000 in the carmaker’s case.

That decision includes $5 million from the Arizona Commerce Authority; the company could ultimately claim more than $40 million if it creates all 2,000 jobs it has promised.

Eric Jay Toll covers the economy for the paper and wrote the piece, and he defines the difference between committed and actual jobs.
