The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report as of early last month only two out of five Americans had gotten a flu vaccine. That’s similar to last year’s levels.

Every year, health officials urge people to get vaccinated; the CDC estimates that prevented about 5 million flu illnesses and more than 70,000 flu-related hospitalizations.

With me to talk about where Arizona’s vaccination rates are now, and how state health officials are trying to get more people to get flu shots, is Cara Christ, director of the state Department of Health Services.

Christ discusses how Arizona’s vaccination rate compares to the national one.
