Faced with the likelihood of big crowds and demonstrations, an Arizona congressman has dropped plans to hear from constituents in person.

Republican Paul Gosar was going to show up in Gold Canyon on Thursday, but now “due to the overwhelming level of interest,” a spokesperson says he will be holding a "Tele-town hall" instead. Constituents can participate by calling in.

Demonstrators from Gold Canyon and other areas of his district like Prescott had publicized their plans to show up and voice their feelings about issues likes the Affordable Care Act. The event wasn’t actually a town hall per se. It was a conversation with fellow Republican Dave Bratt of Virginia, who will still take part in the telephone conference.

None of Arizona's Republican members of Congress are scheduled to hold an in-person town-hall event during the congressional recess — except for Congresswoman Martha McSally.
