A recent study by trade group Environmental Entrepreneurs concluded that Arizona saw the fastest clean-energy job growth in the nation during the second quarter.

The study's findings were based on the fact that more than 3,000 jobs in the renewable energy sector were announced statewide during that period. That was the most of any other state and is a vast improvement from last year, when Arizona didn't even rank in the top 10.

The trend in Arizona is also in line with the rest of the nation, where more than 12,500 clean-energy jobs were announced during the quarter — more than double last year's figure, the study said.

Arizona's job growth in the sector was mostly attributed to the Solar Wind Energy Tower, a $1.5 billion-project being proposed in the border city of San Luis. That project alone would create about 2,350 jobs.

But the report does come with some caveats.

First, the report only discusses jobs that have been announced, so they don’t yet exist.

Second, most of those 3,000 announced jobs in Arizona are in construction, and therefore temporary. That means the number of permanent jobs that are directly tied to renewable energy is more in the ballpark of 800 statewide.
