The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is starting work Monday on a $62 million project that will widen a section of State Route 260 in the Verde Valley.

As many as 30,000 vehicles a day use SR 260, the road that leads to Cottonwood, Clarkdale and Jerome. Now ADOT will turn the existing two way highway into a four-lane divided highway.'

"We’re going to be adding seven roundabouts," said Tom Herrmann, with ADOT.

He said there are a handful of intersections along 260 where the roundabouts will be installed.

"They start over at Thousand Trail Road at the west end of the project, Coury Drive, Cherry Creek Road, Horseshoe Bend Drive and Wilshire Road and then there are two other locations that will be added in to accommodate some future development," Herrmann said.

The project should take about 18 month to complete.
