The Tucson City Council on Tuesday night approved a new ban on drivers using cellphones and other handheld devices.
Fines for those not using hands-free devices start at $250, although there are some exceptions, like in emergency situations.
State Sen. Steve Farley of Tucson has pushed statewide texting-while-driving bans for the past several years in the state Legislature.
