The American Civil Liberties Union is suing the federal government to learn more about how the Trump administration’s travel ban was carried out in Arizona.

The lawsuit comes after the ACLU filed a request under the Freedom of Information Act in early February.

No one is known to have been detained or held for secondary screening at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport as a result of Trump’s initial travel ban, which was issued late January. But the lack of information about exactly what orders were given to federal officials and what they did exactly led the ACLU to sue. That’s after it never got a reply to its original FOIA request.

“We felt, especially in light of the reports that things were very chaotic and agencies were operating without much direction, that we find out exactly what the direction had been about the implementation of that order,” ACLU of Arizona legal director Kathy Brody said.

"We know very little and that’s one of the reasons we thought it was important to file this request,” she said.

A dozen similar lawsuits were filed by ACLU chapters across the country seeking information about the travel ban.
