Peoria Unified Changes Boundaries, Will Relocate Some Students
Some parents in Peoria Unified School District will have to send their child to a different school next year. The district changed boundaries this week to avoid overcrowding in the northern part of the city.
School officials changed the final boundary map from 1,400 families affected to about half of that. The changes come after weeks of public meetings and input. The new map, compared to the originally proposed map, has more specific boundary lines drawn.
This isn’t the first time students have been rerouted — and it might not be the last.
The district board also voted to explore another bond election in November after the last one failed. If that’s approved, and voted for, new schools could be built, changing the boundaries again.
Students at Sunset Heights and Zuni Hills elementary schools will be the ones most likely affected. All boundary changes start next school year.
