The retail sector lost approximately 30,000 jobs nationwide just in March as retail buying moves online. Many of its jobs are also moving online, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, which also shows e-commerce growing.

Dan Kite is the founder of a co-working site in Phoenix and said there are increasing numbers of remote workers still looking to connect.

“Small business environments...one could say that working alone, stinks,” Kite said.

Kite said Phoenix needs to create more places where non-traditional workers can collaborate and be social.

"We have taken the offline networking into an online presence,” he said.

New York, L.A. and Chicago lead the nation in modernized working space, Kite said, but Phoenix is catching up.
