As the weather heats up across Arizona, wild animals are heading to where the lawns are watered, the swimming pools are plentiful — and the garbage cans are filled with tasty treats.

Arizona Game and Fish Department spokesman Mark Hart said month, bears have been spotted in neighborhoods in Tucson, Flagstaff and Payson, and at campgrounds along the Mogollon Rim.

Mountain lions also have been seen in several suburban spots, and foxes have bitten two people.

The key to reducing danger from wildlife is to reduce the things that attract them, Hart said. That includes garbage, pet food — and small pets left outside.
