Maricopa County’s tentative budget includes a moderate overall spending increase, and spending on transportation infrastructure would jump significantly.

The budget would increase funding to the transportation department by more than 13 percent.

$7 million would go to managing and maintaining county roadway surfaces, while $1.75 million would go to bridge preservation and drainage studies.

The budget increase will be supported by higher revenue from gas taxes and license fees.

The transportation department projected a hundred million dollar budget shortfall through 2035 if all planned maintenance and development is carried out.

County residents can still comment on the budget before the final vote June 19.
