Earlier this week, Phoenix firefighters rescued several hikers on Camelback Mountain. The rescue took place at night after the mountain had closed. It was just one of a handful of nighttime mountain rescues that have taken place this year, according to a Phoenix fire official.

Now, the City of Phoenix wants to put a stop to it. Cynthia Brown, the Parks Supervisor with the City of Phoenix, said one option being explored is an obvious one.

"We can enforce the operating hours," Brown said. "And so it’s sunrise to sunset and the gate closes and we are able to cite, or rather ticket, the vehicles that are left in the parking lot after closing hours."

So far park authorities have not enforced that rule. In the meantime, no word as to when the city might start issuing citations.
