The Boundary Fire.

With a red-flag warning in effect for all of Arizona, the Boundary Fire has now burned nearly 5,400 acres northwest of Flagstaff.

Kaitlyn Webb with the U.S. Forest Service said high winds and an incoming cold front have hindered containments efforts, but that may change soon.

“This next week, with calmer winds in the forecast, there is a potential that fire personnel are gonna maybe be able to reassess their tactics, and potentially use aerial ignition to introduce fire up on the top of the peaks.”

Webb said introducing fire at the top of Kendrick Mountain would slow its growth, as fire uphill burns more intensely and grows faster than downhill.

A section of Highway 180 in the area remains closed. Webb said a decision whether to continue the closure will be made on Sunday.
