The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is urging the public not to panic after confirming the first case of Ebola in the U.S. Tuesday.

CDC director Tom Frieden said the patient is a man who recently flew into Dallas from Liberia. Frieden said there’s no chance the man could have spread Ebola to fellow passengers, because he didn’t get sick until four days after he arrived in this country.

"It is certainly possible that someone who had contact with this individual, a family member or other individual, could develop Ebola in the coming weeks, but there is no doubt in my mind that we will stop it here," Frieden said.

Frieden said the CDC will now interview every possible person the patient could have infected. Ebola has an incubation period of up to 21 days. It can only be spread through bodily fluids by people showing symptoms.
