The far-reaching economic effects of Harvey are still just beginning to emerge — from rising fuel prices at the pump to disruptions in our food supply.

One industry that’s been immediately affected is the trucking industry.

So how much of U.S. trucking might be affected?

According to an analysis by research firm FTR Transportation Intelligence, Hurricane Harvey will strongly affect over 7 percent of the U.S. trucking industry in the next few weeks.

I spoke with Noel Perry about this. He's with FTR and is chief economist for truckstop.com. He told me that even though the industry didn’t expect this storm to be as bad as it has been, some truckers stopped shipping stuff into Texas before the storm.

But, he said, the trucking industry is a really integrated supply chain, and this kind of disruption has far-reaching effects.
