Maricopa, Gila and Mohave counties are all under excessive heat watches Tuesday morning into Wednesday night with expected high temperatures near 110 degrees. But there could be a break from the heat later in the week, thanks in part to Hurricane Bud.

The Pacific coastal storm reached category three level Monday morning with maximum sustained winds of 120 miles per hour. As it approaches the western coasts of Mexico, moisture from the storm is expected to move northward into Arizona.

Jaret Rogers, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Phoenix, says parts of Arizona could get thunderstorms, and others could see dust storms, as early as Wednesday night.

“By Friday night into Saturday, we’re looking at basically what could be record levels of moisture for this time of year," Rogers said. "That doesn’t necessarily mean we’ll get record precipitation, just moisture in the environment is at record levels.”

Relative humidity for the coming weekend could reach more than 60 percent. The high temperatures for the weekend are forecasted only in the mid-90s.

The last measurable rainfall in Phoenix, according to Rogers, was on March 11.
