The latest city-owned property for sale in Phoenix includes large parcels along the 19th Avenue light rail corridor and undeveloped land near the spring training home of the Chicago White Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers.

Between June 2017 and June 2018, Phoenix sold 95 parcels generating $15.1 million, according to City Property Manager Timothy McBride.

Last month, he told a subcommittee that another 13 parcels will be listed this summer.

“Staff are reviewing another 228 that will be disposed in ways that both meet market demands and that comply with any regulatory requirements due to funding,” McBride said.

When the city sells parcels, it not only collects cash, but often new property taxes. It also saves on maintenance costs. For example, last year the Neighborhood Services Department reported it spends about $50 per lot per month to maintain about 300 properties.

McBride said Phoenix owns more than 5,000 and has identified more than 600 as not needed now or in the future.

Last year, for the first time, Phoenix launched an online mapping tool to showcase which city-owned properties are for sale.
