Sign marking the future Interstate 11 corridor.

The first 15 miles of the country’s newest interstate is now open.

Interstate 11 is designed to ultimately connect Las Vegas to Phoenix and shave as much as 30 minutes from the drive.

Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada spokeswoman Monika Bertaki said there's no timeline or funding yet for completing the interstate and connecting the two southwest cities.

Officials hope it’s final iteration will connect Mexico and Canada. However, construction on this 15-mile stretch began in 2015 and has, so far, cost over $300 million.
