Forget The Lights And Carols, I Want Tamales

PHOENIX -- Thanksgiving has passed. Stores are overdressed in red and green. Inflatable Santas dot neighborhood lawns. Holiday songs are on the radio. 'Tis the season.

But along la frontera, a different custom is revived. An email I received from a friend last night:

"It's Christmas time, that means tamale time. If you don't have a Nana that's going make hundreds of tamales, I'm now taking orders."

One of my favorite holiday traditions is Christmas tamales. As this Food Network video shows, they are a gift that truly reflects the season:
