KJZZ is exploring what it means to be part of a community in a series called "We Are The Valley." Today we’re discussing a lesser-known 12-step recovery group. Al-Anon is made up of people who have friends or family who have been affected by alcoholism.

Steve Goldstein talked with two members of Al-Anon, who are also involved in service, which means they volunteer with the organization. Because of the anonymous nature of the group, the two people with whom Steve talked asked to use the pseudonyms Matt and Anna. For those not familiar with the group, Anna begins by explaining the nature of the program.

If you’re part of a community around town, tell us about it for our "We Are The Valley" series. Just send us a note at [email protected].
