Services Tonight For 13-year Old Killed In Tijuana
Services will be held Tuesday night for a 13-year old student from San Diego's South Bay who was killed in Tijuana over the weekend.
Ulysses Castrejón attended San Ysidro Middle School. He is described as a bright student who was very popular among his peers.
The eighth-grader was one of five people killed Saturday at a birthday party in Tijuana.
Mexican authorities said a gunman stormed the home where the celebration was taking place, took four men along with Castrejón and executed them.
The news came as a shock to his peers.
Superintendent of the San Ysidro School District, Manuel Paul, said grief counselors will be on hand this week for students and staff.
"It was very difficult of course," Paul said. "They miss their friend who they've known since the first grade, they're taking it very hard."
The Baja California Attorney General's Office is linking the incident to a settling of scores between rival drug groups.
Authorities said one victim was the brother of a former Tijuana police officer recently arrested for having ties to the Sinaloa drug cartel.
Several suspects are in custody.
A service is scheduled Tuesday between 4 and 9 p.m. at Community Mortuary in Chula Vista.
